Your personal data
Personal data is any element that allows a natural person to be identified directly (name, first name, address, etc.) or indirectly (date of birth, login ID, cookie, etc.). This identification can be carried out from a single piece of data or from the cross-referencing of a set of data.
Historically, the Data Protection Act of 1978 already defined personal data and the first means of protecting them. Reworked over time and with the evolution of technological means, it now includes the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into force at European level since May 25, 2018.
Mediapart is committed to collecting only the information strictly necessary to provide you with quality content and manage your subscription.
When subscribing to a subscription, you are invited to provide us with an account identifier used to comment on articles, participate in the Club (the blog space) and interact with other subscribers or the editorial staff. This identifier is included in our statistical audience measurement tools. When you subscribe, in accordance with the Law for Confidence in the Digital Economy (LCEN) , your IP is recorded at the time of your payment. When subscribing, we also offer you the option of providing us with your date of birth and gender, which is completely optional. This information helps us to better understand our readership and to personalize certain communications (e-mails) with our subscribers.
Mediapart is a free and independent media, without subsidies, without advertising, without shareholders and which lives only from the subscriptions of its readers. We do not resell any data of our users to third parties.
Cookies and other technologies used on Mediapart
What is a cookie?
The definition of cookies as proposed by the CNIL is as follows: “A cookie is a small file stored by a server in the terminal (computer, telephone, etc.) of a user and associated with a web domain (i.e. in the majority of cases to all the pages of the same website). This file is automatically sent back during subsequent contacts with the same domain”. You can find more information on cookies on the CNIL website .
